adjacent underutilised Pinaroo Rotary Park, consistent with the intention of Noosa Junction
Placemaking Strategy.
The Placemaking Strategy also identifies the establishment of a new active playground within Pinaroo
Rotary Park. The community space strategy includes:
Cockatoo Playground and Pinaroo Way: A soft green edge to Pinaroo Rotary Park
Cockatoo Playground, the new playground for children in Pinaroo Rotary Park, features environmental
themes and interpretation, and is supported by picnic and other park facilities. Pinaroo Way is a low
key, low speed access road, which provides a more open interface between the park and Noosa
Junction.
The applicant is prepared to contribute to the establishment of this playground either through
construction of a new amenities block and/or contribution towards play/park facilities.
Through the creation of Pinaroo Way, activating the north-eastern boundary of Pinaroo Rotary Park
and connecting to Noosa Drive, which provides for increased pedestrian and cyclist pathway networks,
the opportunity for low level street lighting along Pinaroo Way, increased sightlines, increased passive
surveillance opportunities and a new public amenities block and/or contribution towards play/park
facilities within Cockatoo Playground the proposed development will ensure this current and
underutilised community asset is returned to its rightful role as a celebrated green space within the
Noosa Junction precinct for residents, workers and visitors.
The development will also provide for a new civic space in the form of a plaza at the corner of
Lanyana Way and Pinaroo Way. This plaza is shown on the amended plans prepared by Mode Design.
These proposed development outcomes will ensure an improved local recreation park identifiable as a
community hub in Noosa Junction can be achieved, consistent with Councils Open Space Strategy.
23. Dem onstrate how the park w ould physically and visually integrate w ith high activity
areas such as cafes and restaurants and retain strong cycle pedestrian links to the
tow n centre.
Response:
The proposed new road, Pinaroo Way, extending from Arcadia Street to Pinaroo Park and along the
edge of Pinaroo Park to Noosa Drive, will include cycle/pedestrian paths and provides the opportunity
to visually and physically connect the park to the heart of Noosa Junction. The section of Pinaroo
Way between Arcadia Street and the park will have an active frontage with shops, cafes and
commercial uses. Consistent with the desired outcomes of the Noosa Junction Placemaking Strategy
this will link disparate elements, bring nature into the centre and provide an identifiable community
space … improve the frontage and interface along Pinaroo Rotary Park … and provide … a way of
enticing and attracting people into the heart of Noosa Junction.
