Risk
The following Sunbus services were not included in the 2014 Easter Free Holiday Buses service
because they travel outside the Noosa Shire:
620 – Noosa Heads to Maroochydore
622 – Maroochydore to Noosa Junction
630 – Noosa Junction to Nambour via Eumundi
631 – Noosa Junction to Nambour via Eumundi & Cooroy
Negative feedback was received from residents who thought that travel within Noosa on the
above services should be free. All marketing material and bus stop posters clearly indicated
which services were and were not included. In addition a shuttle was provided between Peregian
- Noosa Heads to compensate for Route 620 and 622.
Sunshine Coast Council did not have free bus travel during Easter 2014 and is not proceeding
with Free Holiday Buses for Christmas 2014/15. However, since all buses across the Sunshine
Coast have been free for many years, residents in Noosa are accustomed to free travel on
Routes 620, 622, 630 and 631 even if they don’t leave the Noosa Shire.
It would be logistically challenging for TransLink to incorporate free and paid travel on Routes
620, 622, 630, and 631. However, a request could be made to TransLink to devise a solution to
facilitate incorporation of the above services. This could potentially negate the need to provide
shuttle services (given a cost comparison between TransLink and Sunbus shuttle) and would
reduce confusion and negative community feedback.
