Noosa Civic Construction Environmental Management Plan 4.3 Element 3: Soil Erosion & Sediment Loss Rationale Construction activities will involve grading and infrastructure works, as well as the stockpiling of materials. These activities have the potential to erode and release sediment into nearby receiving waters, notably the small creek which runs through OS7 and Eenie Creek downstream of the site. Uncontrolled erosion and sedimentation can also result in direct toxicity to flora and fauna, costly site damage, and reductions in visual and recreational amenity. This element of the CEMP does not preclude the Contractor from preparing additional plans containing preferred erosion and sediment control measures previously demonstrated as successful on sites with similar characteristics. In this regard, a separate Erosion and Sediment Control Plan (ESCP) has already been prepared by Cardno. Any Contractor ESCP should be consistent with the management intent specified below. Objective/Target Compliance with the ESCP and the Stormwater Management Plan (SMP) appended to the Engineering Report for the development. To minimise the impacts of soil erosion and sedimentation on the receiving environment within and in the vicinity of the construction site. To minimise any emissions associated with the construction works which have the potential to cause adverse impacts to water quality within Lake Weyba, Eenie Creek and tributaries. Performance Indicators Sediment and erosion control devices are installed and operational prior to the commencement of site establishment and construction activities. No failure of erosion and sedimentation control devices is detected during construction works. No erosion or changes in flows of water bodies within or in the vicinity of the site occur as a result of the works. All stormwater runoff, with potential to contact contaminated areas within the site, is diverted through effective erosion and sediment control. Unless alternative values are specified in the approved ESCP or SMP, any waters being discharged from the work site are to comply with the water quality characteristics specified in Table 4-1 below.
