EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Council resolved at its meeting on the 6 March 2014 to commence the process of preparing a
new Planning Scheme, the new Noosa Plan. The new Noosa Plan is a key tool to manage future
development across the Shire by setting standards for new development such as land uses,
building heights, setbacks and design requirements.
The new Noosa Plan will be prepared under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009, which sets out
the process for preparing a scheme. Formal community consultation is required for a period of 30
days as part of this process; however Council decided to undertake an additional non-mandatory
step of engaging with the community prior to drafting the scheme in 2017.
The new Noosa Plan Discussion Paper was prepared to facilitate an early opportunity for the
community to have input prior to drafting the plan. The Discussion Paper outlines ideas for how
the new Noosa Plan could address future opportunities and community needs and expectations.
Extensive community consultation was undertaken on the Discussion Paper from 24 October till
12 December 2016 and included online feedback through Your Say Noosa, static stands at
Libraries as well as 11 pop-up stands at key localities around the Shire with staff and Councillors
present.
RECOMMENDATION
