ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT 4-6
Strategy: Ensure the appropriate handling, storage and disposal of materials including
solid and liquid waste.
6. Refuelling to be carried out by suitably qualified personnel and in clearly defined areas free
from potential ignition sources.
7. Storage areas to be secure from vandalism.
8. All staff using hazardous substances to be trained in safe handling and storage requirements as
part of Induction Program.
9. Clean-up materials (as recommended by EPA) to be kept on site in clearly marked location.
10. Remove all debris and rubbish from the site and dispose of appropriately.
11. No burning of waste materials is to occur on site. All green waste (except weeds) is to be
mulched/chipped either on site for reuse where the source materials are suitable for on-site
reuse. For all unsuitable materials, including declared and other environmental weeds, green
wastes are to taken to a Council refuse facility for mulching/ disposal.
12. No burning or burying of waste/rubbish or littering will be permitted.
13. Emptying of portable toilets is to be carried out by a licensed contractor.
14. All rubbish is to be placed into bins located at least 20m from the nearest residence. Such bins
will be animal proof and covered.
15. Waste storage areas and bins are to be located clear of stormwater runoff.
16. Solid waste shall be separated on site and recycled where practicable. The remaining waste
will be stockpiled in a designated area at the site for collection and disposal in accord with
Council’s requirements. Wastes stored on site should be stored in such a manner that the
contamination of runoff does not occur.
17. Any waste leaving site to be covered to prevent spillage.
18. Liquid chemicals and wastes are to be stored temporarily in an appropriate container, with a
lid and sealed, on a bunded pallet (or similar) and disposed of by a licensed contractor in
accordance with the requirements of Council’s policy.
Performance Requirement: Material and waste is appropriately stored, segregated then recycled or
disposed. The waste storage area is clean, away from drainage areas and the site is free of litter and
debris. All waste removed from site.
Monitoring and Maintenance: Daily visual site inspection of the ERP area by the ERP Contractor
during the implementation program. Subsequent 4 year maintenance period to be undertaken in
accordance with the ERP.
Reporting: ERP Contractor to report monthly to Restoration Ecologist and Project Manager.
Corrective Action: Amend material and waste management procedures.
