ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT 4-7
Element 5: Bushfire Control
Policy: To ensure that risk to life and property is minimised during construction within the
constraints of protecting remnant vegetation.( refer Conditions 14.6; 62-78)
Strategy: To implement a fire control strategy that protects life and property and protects
ecosystems
Responsibility: ERP Contractor and Restoration Ecologist
Management Actions:
The Fire Management Plan provides detailed fire management requirements for the site. The
following are general requirements:
1. No fires will be permitted on site (including no burning of cleared vegetation).
2. No smoking will be permitted in ERP areas.
3. No combustible waste stored within 20m of bushland.
4. The site is to be managed in accordance with the responsibilities outlined in the Queensland
Fire and Rescue Authority Act 1990.
5. Construct firebreaks prior to commencement of further site works- the location of firebreaks is
to be determined in liaison with Wildlife Ecologist.
6. Maintain fuel loads which reduces potential fire hazard. It will be aimed that fuel loads will be
reduced to 10 tonnes/ha prior to completion of ERP works.
7. Road access to firebreaks kept open at all times for Fire Brigade access.
8. ERP Contractor to ensure that the appropriate fire control equipment (on the advice of the
QFRS) is kept in a readily accessible location on site.
9. Fire response procedures are to be established and indicated in a clearly visible location in the
administrative area.
10. No clearing for firebreaks is to exceed 5m in width unless otherwise approved.
Performance Requirement: No fires on site. Fuel loads don’t exceed 10 tonnes per hectare. All
bushland protected. Clear fire control directions available at all times.
Monitoring and Maintenance: Fire risks to be assessed each month by Restoration Ecologist in
liaison with Wildlife Ecologist. During the 4 year maintenance period, fire risks are to be assessed
on an annual basis by a fire management consultant.
Reporting: ERP Contractor to identify fire control actions on a monthly basis during the
implementation program and report to Restoration Ecologist and Project Manager. Reporting during
the maintenance period is to be conducted annually.
Corrective Action: Ensure that all recommendations for the Fire Management Plan are implemented.
