ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT 4-9
Strategy: To ensure that erosion and sedimentation is adequately controlled during the
ERP implementation.
• Such storage areas are to be suitably bunded and lined to prevent seepage of contaminants
into the sand substrate;
• Education of site personnel through the Induction/Environmental Awareness training;
• Construction of sedimentation detention areas as required;
• Installation of washdown facilities (as undertaken by Principal Contractor) at site
access/exit points to minimise potential for transport of sediment off site.
Performance Requirement:
• To ensure measures taken to reduce risk of erosion are in accordance with best practice
guidelines (I E Aust 1996), minimise the generation of sediments and prevent off-site
transport of sediments during ERP implementation.
• E and SC measures to be staged to match clearing activity.
• No transport of silt or sediment to wetland / heathland areas.
Monitoring:
1. Regular site inspections of all erosion and sediment control measures, with increased
frequency during or following significant rainfall events (refer above).
2. Records maintained of implemented measures (e.g. installation, effectiveness, any
maintenance)
3. Regular inspections of areas surrounding construction site to ensure no occurrence of
sediment deposition due to material derived from adjacent construction area. Any
evidence of silt deposition is to be conveyed to Wildlife Ecologist and Restoration
Ecologist.
4. Water quality monitoring is to be conducted under separate contract. The ERP
Contractor is to maintain liaison with this contractor (through the Restoration
Ecologist) on a monthly basis or more frequently if adverse results are evident.
Compliance objectives are described in Element C.5(b) of EMP 1.
Reporting: ERP to report on a monthly basis to Project Manager.
Corrective Action: ERP Contractor (in liaison with Restoration Ecologist) to amend strategies as
required to address deficiencies identified through regular monitoring and inspections.
