Net Outcomes
It is therefore Urban Economics’s opinion that the proposed development would not have a
significant impact on the existing network of commercial accommodation solutions within
Peregian, but rather would add value to the mix of short term accommodation solutions in
contributing to the role of Noosa as a premier tourist destination on the Sunshine Coast and in
maintaining the boutique and village nature of Peregian as a specialist destination within Noosa
Council.
There is a community and economic need for the proposed development, and a planning need
for the proposed development on the subject site in contributing to economic and community
outcomes for Peregian Beach that would outweigh any impacts of the proposed development on
the surrounding commercial facilities, and mitigate any significant impacts that may otherwise
ensue from a larger short term accommodation development on site.
More particularly, the opportunity for short term accommodation on the subject site lies in
developing a boutique accommodation facility that will be positioned differently from existing
facilities in Peregian in tapping into unmet needs and emerging visitor market segments, thereby
adding value to the Peregian and Noosa visitor infrastructure without significantly impacting on
a short-term accommodation market which is demonstrating some signs of stress and need for
rejuvenation.
