Existing accommodation facilities across the Sunshine Coast Tourism Region and within Peregian
Beach are limited in their potential to accommodate markets outside of the family holiday
makers and longer term stays. As is evidenced by the low and declining occupancy rates of the
existing family resorts in Peregian Beach, and the numerous proposals for modern, branded and
luxury hotel facilities across the Sunshine Coast TR; there is a need to provide product diversity
to the market, which may attract alternative target markets, although this is untested.
Key trends influencing visitor accommodation such as increasing visitation from Asia, and the
appetite for personalised, boutique and experiential facilities, present the opportunity to
introduce a “missing” accommodation product to the Peregian Beach locality.
Moreover, there are major, upmarket developments proposed to the south of Noosa which may
impact on the performance of short term accommodation in Peregian and the overall role of
Noosa as a premier tourist destination, without investment in development, positioning or
promotional strategies. Notwithstanding this, such investment coupled with the existing mix of
short term accommodation in Peregian, suggests that the opportunity for new short term
accommodation in Peregian is limited in ensuring that impacts on existing facilities in Peregian
and Noosa would not be significant.
