6 T REE P ROTECTION D URING W ORKS
Prior to works commencing, it is proposed that a prestart meeting be held with the Contractors
and the Project Arborist to ensure an understanding of the tree protection measures required.
With the trees located on the council verge and not directly affected by the main site works,
the verge is to be a No Go Zone for general site activities. The Site Access route is to be
established along the eastern boundary as per the project plans; this will divert site traffic away
from the area next to Tr3 that is currently the informal property access.
To demarcate the No Go / Exclusion / Tree Protection Zone, site flagging or mesh fencing can
be used. Public access needs to be considered for the council verge. Figure 7 below illustrates
with a broken purple line the area to be fenced to demarcate the tree protection zone. Site
steel mesh fencing can be erected along the boundary with the site, and flagging can be used
during the working day to visually mark the edge of the Site Access Route.
NO site traffic or materials are to be parked or stored on the council verge.
It is acknowledged that the extent of each tree’s calculated NRZ cannot be achieved, but the
combined m² area available on the Gympie Street verge represents a significant area of
protection for the trees.
The electrical trenching works required are to be undertaken with a combination of a suitably
sized excavator and Hydro Vac. The trench will be approximately 900mm deep and 300mm
wide. Energex specifications will guide the trench dimensions and methodology. Where
possible, ‘Bridges’ will be retained with roots and soil in the upper level of the trench.
The driveways would ideally be constructed with minimal excavation to limit the surface root
zone intrusion. The final design will be guided by the project engineer and council conditions.
Sunshine Coast Council's footpath design at Figure 6 is offered as a guide for the intended
driveway design to limit the excavation works.
