5.3 DESIGN REVIEW
The project proposed to construct a driveway for each Lot that fronts Gympie Street. The
alignment of each of these driveways has been reviewed, discussed, and adjusted to reduce
the surface treatment intrusion into each of the three (3) retained trees. The driveways do
cross over the surface of the trees’ NRZ calculation, and it is proposed that the construction
excavation of the driveway is kept to a minimum whilst achieving council standard designs.
The project is required to install an underground electrical conduit on the Energex standard
alignment of 0-900mm from the property boundary. In an attempt to minimise the root damage
that will occur, these works will be undertaken adjacent to the trees using a Hydro-Vac
Excavator in the presence of a Project Arborist to guide the work. Where possible, larger tree
roots that cross the upper level of the trench will be identified for retention; within the lower
conduit alignment, the roots will be cut. Ultimately, the trench may need to be certified for
compliance by others to ensure it meets Energex standards. Trees Tr1 and Tr3 will incur the
greater intrusion from these works.
It is acknowledged that the extent of each tree’s calculated NRZ cannot be achieved, but the
combined m² area available on the Gympie Street verge represents a significant area of
protection for the trees.
