GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 17 OCTOBER 2016
(h) The slatted ceiling vents in the ceiling over the top of the main hall, if they are to remain, will
require ducting to the roof vents, so that the dust in the ceiling isn’t able to be deposited
on/into the hall area below the ceiling.
The majority of the ceiling sheeting is of fibrolite or similar and if it is to remain, then it will
require sealing after the ceiling area has been vacuumed.
Further information on this can be supplied if required.
(i) The ceiling over the main hall and which is located under the king post trusses and the tails
there of, provides the majority of the bracing for the main section of the hall. This bracing is
in the form of diaphragm bracing provided by the ceiling sheeting.
This being the case, it is critical that any significant alterations to the ceiling over the main
body of the hall, should they occur, will require a significant amount of temporary bracing of
the external walls and will require the new ceiling to be in the form of a diaphragm ceiling
that has been designed by a structural engineer.
(j) The poorly detailed king post trusses over the ceiling above the raised floor dining room to
the north of the kitchen and on the eastern side of the building, are in need of additional
work in the form of bolts and some plates etc. to be carried out on the heel of the trusses
and to the connections of the king post and the associated struts.
