RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Senior Economic Development Officer to the General
Committee Meeting dated 14 December 2015 and
A.                      Adopt the Noosa Shire Local Economic Plan, provided at Attachment 1; and
B.                      Authorise the Chief Executive Officer to develop an Implementation Plan to support the
                        Local Economic Plan by 12 February 2016; and
C.                      Authorise the Chief Executive Officer to make any minor amendments to the Local
                        Economic Plan prior to publication.


REPORT
Background

Council commenced the process to develop a Local Economic Plan (the Plan) for Noosa Shire in
March 2015. The principle aim of the proposed Plan is to:
   strengthen the resilience of the local economy by broadening its structure and achieving
     growth in industry sectors that have high economic value and low environmental impact;
     and
   support the social and environmental values of our community to strengthen our quality of
     life.

The proposed Plan:
   identifies 6 key themes and 6 priority industry sectors;
   recognises the interdependence of the economy, the environment and the community ;
   outlines the type of economic development best suited to the Noosa Shire; and
   was developed in consultation with the community.

With the vision statement ‘A Dynamic and Resilient Economy For Generations to Come’,
outcomes of the Plan will be achieved through projects undertaken in collaboration and
partnership with business and industry, government agencies as well as business representative
groups and organisations.

At the Ordinary Meeting of 19 November 2015, Council approved the Draft Noosa Local
Economic Plan for the purpose of public exhibition and comment. Public comment was received
during the period 20 November to 4 December 2015 and has been considered by the Chief
Executive Officer in the finalisation of the Local Economic Plan.
