PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 8 DECEMBER 2015
Figure 1: North Shore Aircraft Landing Ground – proposed boundary change (2006)
It appears that no actions have been taken by any of the parties to implement the agreed
approach, possibly due to the distractions in the lead up to amalgamation and then during
the amalgamation period the Sunshine Coast Council position on site usage changed to a
more commercial focus particularly for helicopter training.
Current situation
Department of Environment & Heritage (DEHP) and Queensland Parks & Wildlife
Service (QPWS) advice is that they no longer support the transfer of the landing strip
area to a Resource Reserve under the Nature Conservation Act. They do not wish to
be involved with the day to day operational activities occurring at the site. QPWS and
Department of Natural Resources & Mines (DNRM) suggest that to help obviate a
recurrence of unwanted activity at the landing ground that this part of the lot be
transferred to a different community purpose under the Land Act that still allows the
existing approved secondary uses to occur and with Council continuing as trustee.
Access to the reserve is currently obtained along a gated gravel track (fire
management trail) approx. 2.7 km in length located in the National Park – refer Fig 2
below. It is not road reserve and QPWS do not consider they should carry
maintenance responsibilities over and above their requirements for fire and land
management purposes and would prefer Council controlled road access be provided if
possible.
