SPECIAL MEETING AGENDA 27 JUNE 2018
2 Progress to date
In July 2017, Council received a report from the CEO on progress with our Corporate Plan. At
that time, a significant amount of work had already been done in relation to addressing some of
the key focus areas in the 5 themes. The next report to Council outlining our progress towards
our Corporate Plan goals will be completed in July 2018.
3 Mid-term review and Corporate Plan update
In February 2018, Council commenced a process to update its current version of the Corporate
Plan. To date, the current Corporate Plan has served us well. However, it is always useful to
review a Corporate Plan every 2 years or so to ensure it remains relevant. The midpoint of this
Council term has provided an opportunity to undertake that review. A further review will likely be
undertaken following the next election in 2020.
There are a number of changes proposed as a result of this update to our Corporate Plan based
on feedback from Councillors and the Executive Team. Unfortunately, it is not possible to provide
this document in “revision mode” showing each change due to the format of our publishing tool
for this document. The following summary is provided in lieu.
What isn't changing?
There is no change to our Council vision, values or purpose;
There is no change to our corporate planning framework; and
There is no change to the overall structure of our 5 themes.
What are proposed changes?
An acknowledgement of country and the Kabi Kabi people as the traditional custodians has
been included;
Statistical information (demographics, economic data etc) has been updated;
Updated language in the key focus areas to reflect current status. For example, in our first
version of the Corporate Plan, there were quite a few references to “adopt xyz
strategy”. Where such strategies have subsequently been adopted, the reference now is to
“implement xyz” strategy. An example would be the Zero Emissions Strategy;
Refining the various key focus areas to reflect current priorities;
Improving the grammar/readability and consistency of language across the document;
Adding a new section on development of a hierarchy of performance indicators; and
Refining the wording of our 20 year goal for the Noosa Environment. The previous version
was “Our environment is protected, enhanced and valued by the community”. The proposed
new wording is “Our environment is protected and enhanced, as well as being valued by the
community”. There are no other changes to the wording in our defined goals.
4 Next steps
This report is being provided to Council to seek approval to proceed to community consultation
on this updated version of our Corporate Plan. It is proposed to undertake this via Council’s
online community engagement platform, Your Say Noosa. The changes proposed are not
significant, hence the reference to an update to our existing Corporate Plan rather than a new
Corporate Plan.
Any feedback from our community will be reviewed and a further report provided to Council. In
the meantime, our existing Corporate Plan continues to apply.
