BUSHFIRE ASSESSMENT REPORT
Client: The Knowles Group Location: Eenie Creek Road, Noosaville
A visit to the subject site and patch of bushland immediately to the north revealed that a fire moved
through the site some years ago. Based on the fire scars the fire seemed to be low intensity and
moving from south to north. The following fires have been documented in the area over recent
times:
Granger et. al. (2000) reported that large fires occurred in the Noosa Area in 1986/1987.
ABC news report that there was a large fire in the Great Sandy National Park near Noosa north
Shore which destroyed more than 8 square kilometres of national park in December
2012.http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-12-17/noosa-national-park-bushfire-still-
burning/4431408
The ABC also reported in November 2012 that a out of control fire threatened homes along
Grays Road, Doonan to the south of the subject site. 2 caravans were destroyed in the same
fire. http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2012/11/15/3633782.htm?site=sunshine
A controlled burn in the Noosa National Park flared up in August 2012 which caused the
Coolum State High School to be evacuated. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-08-03/blaze-
controlled-on-sunshine-coast/4175544?site=sunshine
A large fire also burned in the Great Sandy National Park at Cooroibah north of Noosa in
December 2009. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2009-12-24/crews-fighting-big-qld-suncoast-
bushfire/1189912?site=sunshine
The North Australian Fire Information (NAFI) website was also consulted to review fire scar history
in the Noosa Area from the years 2006 through to 2015 (refer Figure 9). A search revealed that
there has been several fires in the vicinity of the site. There were four fire scars in 2012 and 2013
that registered on the website. These may also have also been controlled burns rather than
wildfires. One of the fire scars illustrated on figure 9 to the north east of the site appears to be
somewhat erroneous being over an urban area.
