Given the above recorded fire history in the area, it’s feasible to assume that fires will again occur
in the vicinity of the site in the future.
5.3 Vegetation Formation Types under AS3959:2009
The subject site is surrounded by ‘Open Forest’ communities. Open Forest vegetation along the
creek lines are more mesic and therefore include a greater abundance of less flammable
mangrove and or rainforest species. Vegetation within these communities are likely to be less
susceptible to wildfires, especially under milder fire weather conditions.
Table 1 outlines the applicable vegetation formation class under AS3959:2009, accorded to each
vegetation community described under the Vegetation Management Report obtained from DNRM
(Appendix D). The overall fuel load described in the Australian Standard is significantly higher than
that observed on-site. Fuel load overserved is likely to be in the vicinity of 13-18t/ha rather than
35t/ha. The lower actual fuel load would result in less intense bushfire behaviour than that
modelled in the AS3959:2009 radiant heat flux model results reflected in the BAL look-up tables.
