BUSHFIRE ASSESSMENT REPORT
Client: The Knowles Group Location: Eenie Creek Road, Noosaville
5.8 Noosa Shire Council Bushfire Planning Scheme Policy Assessment
Methodology
An assessment has been undertaken of the bushfire hazard using the method described in NSC’s
Planning Scheme Policy 1 – Information Council May Request.
The NSC planning scheme policy 1 refers to the methodology outlined in Appendix 3 of the State
Planning Policy 1/03 Guideline: Mitigating the Adverse Impacts of Flood, Bushfire and Landslide.
The assessment methodology uses a combination of vegetation, slope and aspect values to
determine an overall hazard severity score of low (1 to 5.5), medium (6 to 12.5) or high (>13)
severity of bushfire hazard.
Tables 2 outlines the nature of the hazard using this methodology for vegetation surrounding the
site. The assessment indicates that vegetation surrounding the site is part of a medium severity
bushfire prone area. A 50m bushfire safety buffer for medium severity hazard areas is applied from
the edge of these areas. All land within the 50m safety buffer is then also included in the medium
hazard severity area.
Applying the 50m hazard buffer from the edge of the medium hazard bushland surrounding the site
would result in the majority of the subject site being located inside the medium bushfire hazard
severity area. This includes the proposed Aged Care Facility footprint.
