SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 10 JULY 2018
4.5. Walk & Ride to Schools Program
Local primary schools were invited to participate in the Program with the Noosaville State School,
Tewantin State School and Sunshine Beach Primary school nominating to participate in the first
round.
The following initiatives have been implemented at these schools
Travel Surveys and site assessments conducted
Bus info sessions and parade presentations
Cycle Skills
Car parking efficiencies with 2-minute pick-up/drop off trial at Sunshine Beach Primary
School.
Walking Wheeling Wednesdays proposed and subject to Community Road Safety Grant.
Other primary schools will be given an opportunity to participate in future years.
4.6. TransLink
Council is working closely with TransLink as a key partner to improve public transport in the Shire
and will assist TransLink with marketing surveys and campaigns aimed at improving awareness
of the existing TransLink services.
4.7. Wayfinding signage
In the September/October 2018 school holidays, a trial of improved traffic and pedestrian
wayfinding as well as promotion of Park and Ride facilities will be tested. Staff are currently
working with key stakeholders in the Noosa Junction and Hastings Street areas to ensure that
the trials have minimal impact on businesses and to ensure that monitoring is in place to
measure the impact of the trial.
It should be noted that the scale of the change in attitudes and behaviours required to achieve
modal shift is substantial. This process will be assisted by the Communications & Change
Consultant to identify key groups and their specific barriers to change.
4.8. Potential trial works in the Hastings Street Precinct
Consideration had been given to undertaking some trial changes to the flow of pedestrians and
traffic in the Hastings Street precinct. This would have entailed potential changes to pedestrian
movements near the Surf Club roundabout and other associated works to assist in freeing up the
flow of vehicles through that particular roundabout. After consultation with the Hastings Street
Association, practical difficulties with this option have been identified and will not be pursued
further at this stage.
