SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 10 JULY 2018
5. Medium Term Projects
5.1. Transport Strategy - Priority Investigation Areas
Working Groups have been investigating the key strategy priority areas including:
1. Park-and-Ride services
2. Subject to investigation, and in keeping with the Noosa look-and-feel, introduce car parking
management controls (e.g. paid parking) in congested areas.
3. Subject to discussions with TransLink, trial a high frequency Noosa style shuttle bus to
service key destinations.
4. The feasibility of priority transport lanes for sustainable transport modes (buses, bicycles,
scooters, electric vehicles etc.).
Each Working Group produced around 7-10 options to improve transport, ranked against defined
principles and objectives. In May and June 2018, the Working Groups presented their
deliberations to Councillors for their consideration (refer to Attachment 1 - Working Group
Options Assessment).
The next phase of the program is for the project team to prepare feasibility studies for the best
potential options, to ensure that not only do they meet the principles, but that they are cost
effective and integrated. It is anticipated that these feasibility studies will be completed by
October and presented to Council for consideration and approval.
It is important to note that no options have been adopted yet. Some of the better potential
options have been identified but need further assessment in terms of their feasibility. The only
exceptions being Council working with Translink on leveraging the existing Tewantin to Noosa
Heads bus service and better use of the Noosa Junction service.
