SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 10 DECEMBER 2019
Tourism Noosa Annual Report
There are a number of key issues in the annual report that are of note:
Focus on interstate and overseas markets increasing economic yield
The annual report discloses that visitor spend, numbers and nights all increased i.e:
Spend up 16% to $1.1B
Overnight visitor numbers up 18% to 1.164M
Number of nights up 8% to 4.98M
Day tripper numbers increased by 17% but the day tripper spend decreased by 6%
International visitors are increasing at the fastest rate with a 14% increase in the number of
nights and a 20% increase in spend
(Note that all statistics are based on the 12-month period ending March 2019. Statistics are drawn from
Tourism Research Australia survey data specific to the Noosa Shire.)
The “value over volume” strategy appears to be working well and is driving increased yield.
Spend is increasing at a faster rate than visitor numbers and visitor nights which indicates that
higher yields are being achieved (see below).
Overseas visitation
For the international market, the Global Market strategy is in its fourth year. International visitor
spend, numbers and nights all increasing from the previous year i.e:
Spend up 20% to $102.93M
Visitor numbers up 2% to 167,000
Number of nights up 14% to 980,000.
