LSA Ref: 45-021 2.5.2 Description of Vegetation Communities General A detailed vegetation survey was undertaken across the development site on 12 September 2005. The majority of vegetation occurring across the development site has been previously cleared for the establishment of the previous use of the site as a sawmill, with open grassland and scattered trees and shrubs across the majority of the site. Some native vegetation remains primarily around the perimeter of the property although no significant remnant native vegetation communities remain on the development site. Significant vegetation identified on the development site includes a row containing primarily stringybarks and gums that appear to have been planted along the eastern boundary of the property (refer Plate 2). Trees identified along this boundary include Eucalyptus latisinensis (White Mahogany), E. carnea (Broad-leaved Mahogany), Eucalyptus tereticornis (Queensland Blue Gum), £. grandis (Flooded Gum), £. pilularis (Blackbutt) and a couple of Elaeocarpus grandis (Blue Quandong) at the southern extent of the boundary, with E. punctata (Grey Gum) also observed amongst some of these species at the northern extent of this eastern boundary. While each of these species are likely to occur in the general vicinity of the development site it is unlikely that all would be generally found in the same vegetation community. Given the similar age of these trees and the alignment along the boundary line, it is therefore envisaged that these trees were planted by the sawmill and possibly represent the range of local hardwood timbers previously harvested for milling on the site. Other significant vegetation included a number of immature Araucaria cunninghamii (Hoop Pine) recorded along the western boundary along with some larger Eucalyptus punctata (Grey Gum) (refer Plate 3). Other native vegetation recorded on site included Callistemon spp. and Melaleuca spp. recorded along the lower southern and north-eastern property boundaries as well as around the small dam in the south-eastern corner of the development site. A detailed Vegetation Species list has been provided as Appendix B of this report. 14 November 2005 Department of State Development, Trade and Innovation Page: 9 Planning Report
