GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING REPORT 17 MARCH 2025
Figure 8 – Tewantin Character and Framework Plan
The proposed extension is considered to enhance the existing Royal Mail Hotel and provide
development that will contribute to the character of the township. The design retains and improves
the historic building on site and provides additional outdoor dining and landscaping to Diyan Street.
The applicant details that they have provided north - south pedestrian links through the site by
maintaining the existing access points at Blakesley Street. These access points in combination
with the requirement for a public thoroughfare easement to be implemented over the driveway
areas from Blakesly Street to the adjoining site at 96 Poinciana Avenue, provide access across
and through the site. Conditions have been included to reflect this easement and for the provision
of pedestrian pathway treatments through the site.
The proposed extension utilises several roof forms and lightweight materials for the northern beer
garden, however a section of the roof adjacent to the existing hotel has a 3-degree roof pitch which
is less than the required 5 degrees. The proposed 3-degree roof pitch represents a small section
of the covered beer garden and is considered acceptable due to it being a well-articulated open
and lightweight structure in landscaped setting.
