Guest Noise
A “worst case” scenario for guest noise was calculated assuming guests
congregated in 3 groups of 5 in the pool / relaxation area. The sound power levels
for the LAeq and statistical noise indices was estimated using the formulae
developed by Hayne et al3 for small to medium crowds.
Due to the nature of the area and potential distribution of people within it, sound
levels at the nearest receivers were calculated by assuming an even distribution
of the total sound power around the perimeter of the area, and that sound through
the apertures between buildings would be dominant over any that may go over the
buildings. Noise levels were then calculated assuming each aperture acted as a
point source.
The predicted noise levels from guests in the pool / relaxation area are shown in
Table 9.
Table 9: Predicted guest noise levels for 30 people in the courtyard
Receiver LAeq(1 hour), dB LA10(1 hour), dB LA1(1 hour), dB
12 Mary Street 35 38 41
4 Ann Street 35 38 41
6 Ann Street 34 37 40
8 Ann Street 33 36 39
10 Anne Street 35 38 41
The predicted noise levels from guests achieve the Acoustic Quality Objectives
and Background Creep criteria during all time periods.
6 Discussion of Results and Attenuation
Air Conditioners
There is no air-conditioning plant designated for the site at this stage. The
measured background noise levels and established criteria for air-conditioning
plant provide criteria for any potential future installations.
Refrigeration Plant
There is no fixed refrigeration plant at the venue. The measured background noise
levels provide criteria for any potential future installations.
Vehicle Noise
Vehicle noise produced on the driveway is not expected to cause a noise nuisance
during the late evening or night time due to the negligible expected use of the
driveway.
Noise from the driveway is also considered unlikely to subjectively emerge from
the ambient existing road traffic noise from Mary Street during the daytime and
evening.
Guest Noise
Guest noise from the pool / relaxation area will achieve all Acoustic Quality
Objectives and Background Creep criteria.
