5.3 Water Supply

The availability of a reliable water supply for firefighting purposes is a vital tool in the defence
of bushfire impact. Reticulated water supply is currently not available within the site nor
proposed to be connected to the site. The proposed wedding marquee will therefore require
provision of a readily accessible on-site emergency static water supply in accordance with
Assessment Benchmark 4 of the SPP Bushfire 2019, which references the QFES 2019
Bushfire Resilient Communities document for information regarding appropriate static water
supply. Section 9.1 of Bushfire Resilient Communities’ states:

An appropriate static water supply (in bushfire prone areas where reticulated supply is not
provided) to support effective emergency services response includes a water tank that is
available solely for firefighting purposes and can be accessed by firefighting appliances. The
water tank is to be provided within 10 metres of each building (other than a class 10 building),
which:

a) is either below ground level or of non-flammable construction;

b) has a take-off connection at a level that allows the following dedicated, static water supply
to be left available for access by firefighters:

i.10,000 litres for residential buildings;

It is therefore recommended that a dedicated 10,000 litres for firefighting purposes is made
available to the proposed wedding marquee. Plate 8 outlines an example of a reserve water

In addition, it is recommended that the water supply is installed in accordance with:

1. Fire Hydrant and Vehicle Access Guidelines for residential, commercial and industrial lots,
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, 2015, unless otherwise specified by the relevant
water entity; and

2. The Road Planning and Design Manual 2nd edition, Department of Transport and Main
Roads, 2013.
