5.4 Fire Breaks/Fire Break Trails

The provision of fire breaks and fire trails within a site located in a bushfire prone area offers
an important bushfire defence measure to assist in reducing the risk and severity of bushfire
ingress onto and through a site.

The proposed wedding marquee and associated infrastructure is separated from the closest
adjacent hazardous vegetation (i.e., SU9b to the north) by approx. 64m of low threat orchard
vegetation (refer Plate 9). The separation area is located on gentle sloping land (<12.5%) and
would be expected to be used by QFES to defend a fire originating from SU9b.

Plate 9 — Existing conditions within the separation distance between the wedding marquee and adjacent
hazardous vegetation

An existing well-formed earthen farm track suitable to support a standard SUV or Ute, tractor,
QFES MRV yellow truck or LV 4wd flanks the edge of hazardous vegetation in the north-east
corner of the site about the proposed access route and wedding marquee locations. The track
offers a continuous loop around the macadamia orchard adjacent to the wedding marquee.
The track joins the existing internal road proposed to be used to access the wedding marquee
and also connects with the existing farm track which leads to further macadamia cropping
blocks to the south beyond the dam. The track represents a desirable fire break trail which
offers vehicular access to the fringe of the hazardous vegetation in the north-east corner of
the site positioned closest to the wedding marquee site.

The condition of the track is shown in Plate 10 and the alignment of the track is shown in Plate
11.
