SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 12 JUNE 2018

The Peregian club was the smallest of Noosa’s 3 surf clubs and operated continuously until
2014. The club’s financial performance varied over the years for a range of reasons. Difficulties
with sustaining its operations became acute in 2014 and the club endorsed a proposal by the
Noosa Heads Surf Lifesaving Club (NHSLSC) to assume responsibility for all operations. A
report to Council in October 2014 (Planning & Organisation Committee Item 7, page 42) detailed
NHSLSC’s proposal to assume lifesaving operations at Peregian Beach and Council has
subsequently issued NHSLSC annual permits to occupy the premises.
The PBLSC was disbanded as an incorporated entity and no longer exists. The Noosa Heads
and Sunshine Beach clubs are the only clubs affiliated and endorsed by Surf Life Saving Qld
(SLSQ) in Noosa.
Since assuming operations at Peregian Beach the NHSLSC has:
    Cleared the PBSLSC’s debts;
 Maintained voluntary lifesaving patrols during the September to May, which it supplements
      with paid lifeguards at its cost;
 Conducted a local nipper program, which later ceased and is now proposed to
      recommence in 2018/19;
 Refurbished the building to address maintenance and safety issues.
The upstairs area at the clubhouse no longer operates as a supporters club, with most of the
kitchen and bar facilities removed in the recent renovations.
