Bulk kerbside collection 2017
Plans are currently being finalised with Council’s Waste Contractor Cleanaway to conduct the
bulk waste kerbside collection. It is anticipated that the collection will commence on the week of
23 April 2017, avoiding the Easter holiday break. The collection process will take approximately
seven weeks. Every care will be taken to organise the collection dates and areas around Noosa
events to minimise impact on visual amenity over this period. The proposed method for this
year’s collection will involve an additional truck picking up useful items which should result in
improved recycling rates. Green waste will not be permitted as Council continues to encourage
uptake of its garden waste bin service.
Overview of waste management contracts
In December 2016 Council’s major waste contracts for collection, disposal and resource recovery
were awarded to Cleanaway. This followed several months of intensive tender evaluation and
negotiations conducted by Officers from the Waste and Procurement sections of Council. The
contracts will commence on 1 September 2017 and run for an initial period of 7 years.
Other contracts
• The contract for environmental monitoring of Council’s waste facilities will go out to tender
by the end of February 2017. The specifications for this contract have been re-written to
reflect Council’s Receiving Environment Monitoring Program.
• The green waste processing contract will be going out to tender in May 2017.
Landfill Management
Extensive capping works to the recently filled Cell 2.1 have now been completed by Cleanaway.
The capping work had the approximate value of $500,000 and will significantly improve the
capture of methane gas at the site. In conjunction with this work, existing methane extraction
wells were repaired and 17 additional wells were installed by LMS.
