SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 FEBRUARY 2017

3. STAFFING

It’s been business as usual at NLC with no notable changes to staffing during this period.

As a result of the recent NLC Service Review, minor labour savings opportunities were identified.
Savings of $15,000 are expected to be seen in the 2017/18 budget.

4. SYSTEMS, PROCESSES AND OTHER MATTERS
 An Emergency Evacuation Centre preparedness exercise was held at NLC in November. As
one of Council’s nominated emergency evacuation centres, this was a great opportunity for
staff to test procedures and processes along with staff from the Queensland Fire and
Emergency Services, the Red Cross and approximately 30 volunteers who attended for role
playing purposes. The exercise was deemed a success and the recently installed switchboard
allowing a back-up generator to be connected to the centre was also successfully tested.
 Operational hours for the crèche were condensed in August (in line with the recommendation
coming out of the NAC Service Review), leading to a reduction of operating hours and in turn,
projected annual costs savings of approximately $20k.
 Energy efficient LED stadium lights and large (7.2m in diameter) cooling fans were installed in
the stadium in December as part of the 2016/17 Capital Works Program. Stadium participants
have already benefited from both, with the stadium temperature being notably cooler
throughout the summer period. Overall, both assets will improve the stadium’s amenity and
have been well received by patrons.
