EMP – CONSTRUCTION PHASE 4-15
Strategy: To ensure that erosion and sedimentation is adequately controlled during the
construction phase.
• Erosion and Sediment Control measures to be staged to match clearing activity.
• Refer Element C.5(b) for water quality compliance levels.
• No transport of silt or sediment to areas outside the site boundaries or into habitat protection
areas.
Monitoring:
1. Regular site inspections of all erosion and sediment control measures, with increased frequency
during or following significant rainfall events (refer inspection timing defined above).
2. Records maintained of implemented measures (e.g. installation, effectiveness, any
maintenance)
3. Regular inspections of areas surrounding construction site to ensure no occurrence of sediment
deposition off-site.
4. Water quality monitoring is to be conducted under separate contract. The SEO is to maintain
liaison with this contractor (through the Superintendent) on a monthly basis or more frequently if
adverse results are evident. Compliance objectives are described in Element C.5(b).
Reporting: Monthly Environmental Compliance Reports (ECR) to address Erosion and Sediment
Control measures and events resulting from significant rainfall (see above).
Corrective Action: Site Environmental Officer to amend the E&SC Plan as required in consultation
with the superintendent to address deficiencies identified through regular monitoring and inspections
and in consultation with Council. The E&SC Plan will be amended to enable site construction
activities to better achieve compliance with the requirements of the E&SC Plan.
4.5.2 Element C.5 (b) Stormwater and Water Quality
Management (Construction Phase)
Strategy: To manage the quality of surface water runoff and infiltration and prevent
uncontrolled discharges of low quality waters into adjacent watercourses and
water bodies and underlying aquifer during the construction phase.
Responsibility: Site Environmental Officer
Management Actions:
1. Implement Erosion and Sediment Control Management Strategies in accordance with Element
C.5 (a) of this EMP.
2. Implement Acid Sulphate Soil Management Strategies in accordance with Element C.14.
3. Implement Storage and Handling of Hazardous Substance Strategies in accordance with Element
C.15.
4. Construct water sensitive urban design features such as lined swales, Stormwater Quality
Improvement Devices (SQIDS) and infiltration pits in accordance with approved Landscape
Master Plan and Stormwater and Water Quality Management Plan (Design and Pre Construction
