SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 12 FEBRUARY 2019
Girls in STEM
In November the Hub hosted 18 promising female STEM students from Noosa District State High
School and Coolum State High School. They enjoyed a series of inspirational talks and QnA with
four of the leading female STEM practitioners on the Sunshine Coast. Each of these schools
subsequently applied for an Engaging Science grant to fund an ongoing Girls in STEM program.
Flying Inventor Program
In November 2018, the Hub hosted the inaugural Flying Inventors program with Noosa's first FPV
drone racing competition. This unique 5 week program was delivered in partnership with the
Noosa Library Service and allowed 20 students from 8 schools to develop an advanced
understanding of drones and learn hands-on piloting skills.
Workshops covered the mechanical and electrical engineering that underpins unmanned aerial
vehicles (UAV's) with participants being taught university level concepts by computer scientist
and engineer, Malte von Ruden.
