Project Description
This engagement project is to consult with the community on proposed planning scheme amendments while
meeting statutory obligations for public notification.
Project background — need approx. 250 words for intro on Your Say Noosa landing page for project and background for any
media
This community engagement project was started by Council in April 2014, before Council had developed the Your Say
Noosa Online portal which went live in August 2014.
Phase 1: - Having acknowledged that parts of Noosa’s planning scheme were in need of review, Council released
discussion papers in April 2014 and submissions were called for with nearly 80 received from the public. These
submissions, as well as State guidelines and staff observations helped Council draft planning scheme amendments
which were forwarded to the (previous) Minister State Development Infrastructure & Planning for approval in early
September 2014. Importantly, proposed amendments are designed to update the existing planning scheme so that
it might serve Noosa Shire until a new scheme can be prepared in the coming years. This is not a comprehensive
planning scheme review.
Phase 2: - Now Council has received the Planning Scheme Amendments back from the State government and are
inviting the community to make comment on the proposed draft. People have the opportunity to provide feedback
on the proposed amendments via the Your Say Noosa Online by registering here (link), via email E:...... or telephone
T:...... Submissions are welcome up until Friday 2 October 2015.
Phase 3: - Following receipt and consideration of submissions Council will review the draft amendments and revise
them as necessary before sending them back to the Minister for a second State Interest review. Once amendments
have been approved public notification will be given when the amended scheme comes into effect.
