Noosa Heads is the principal focus for visitor accommodation and services in Noosa and Hastings Street
                                       7
is one of the key visitor attractions.

Hastings Street accommodates a high proportion of entertainment and dining premises. As such, it is
predominately zoned Visitor Mixed Use in the Noosa Plan with some areas also zoned for Community
Services. Hastings Street is accessible via bus and car, however on-the-street parking can be hard to
find, especially in peak tourist season.

A floorspace survey was undertaken to quantify the GLA in Hastings Street, and to understand the role
and function of the strip. Hastings Street accommodates approximately 16,600 sq.m GLA of which 75%,
or 12,500 sq.m, is retail GLA and 16%, or 2,500 sq.m, is non-retail. Approximately 800 sq.m of
floorspace is currently vacant (refer Chart 4.12).

The retail provision in Hastings Street reflects its role as the major tourist and visitor hub in Noosa. In the
centre of Hastings Street on the southern side is Bay Village on Hastings, an arcade of specialty shops
and a food court.

A breakdown of retail floorspace categorised by ANZSIC Group is provided below in Chart 4.13 In
summary:

 Hastings Street is dominated by cafes, restaurants and other food options and quality fashion
operators. Together, these two groups account for over 80% of the retail floorspace at Hastings
       Street.

 The other store types in Hastings Street are Pharmaceutical and Other Store-Based Retailing (8%
       and 10% respectively).

 The Noosa Heads Surf Club is the largest non-retail use at Hastings Street, accounting for one half of
all non-retail commercial GLA on the strip. There are a limited number of other non-retail uses in the
area such as allied health services and real estate services.
