Pomona South Distance(km) Council_3
Figure 3: Transmission Assessment at Alternative Location 3
We remind Council that the Development Application does include a discussion of additional
alternatives sites that NBN Co considered north of Pomona Kin Kin Rd, and we highlight that
those locations were either inaccessible (due lack of landowner agreement) or prominently placed
along the major road network. Council’s Planning Director had previously counselled NBN Co not
to propose facilities directly adjacent to Pomona Kin Kin Rd, or faciltiies that required significant
tree clearing.
NBN Co advises that having already re-designed the broader local transmission network to
enable a 30m pole off Grahams Rd, and having progressed the surrounding network over the last
twelve months, NBN Co does not intend to carry out another re-design of the Sunshine Coast and
Noosa transmission network.
1.1 Relative Planning Merit of Alternative Sites at 55m
We understand that some Councillors have suggested that a 50m+ structure west of Pomona Kin
Kin Rd may be a preferable outcome to the 30m structure proposed off Grahams Rd. In
response, NBN Co respectfully submits that a lattice tower structure, approximately twice the
height of the monopole structure proposed at Grahams Rd, and at least four times the width,
would not represent a better planning outcome at Pinbarren.
NBN Co appreciates that while an alternative site west of Pomona Kin Kin Rd may satisfy
individual residents located on Grahams Rd, we maintain that an objective assessment of the
visual impact would not support this alternative. Importantly, we do not believe it would meet with
the approval of the broader community — considering that Alternative Location 1, at 1347
Greenridge Pinbarren Rd, is in relatively close proximity to a substantial cluster of residences.
Please see Figure 4 below for an aerial image illustrating the proximity of Alternative Location 1 to
surrounding residences.
