8. TURF

8.1 GENERAL

Turf species shall be Green Couch. The turf shall have 90-95% of the species type specified. The
remaining percentage may contain grass species other than the specified type. Minimum thickness of
topsoil attached is to be 25 mm.

Within 14 days of signing of the contract, nominate the specialist supplier of turf for the project for approval.
Furnish a warranty from the supplier that the turf is free from weeds and other foreign matters. Random
inspections of 1 m² of specified turf shall be required before laying of turf on request of Superintendent. If
the sample upon inspection is found to be defective, the entire turf supply shall be rejected. Alternatively,
the entire turf supply shall be treated with selective herbicides at no cost to the Principal.

Upon placement of topsoil bring surface to smooth even grades, free from mounds and hollows such that
the whole surface drains in accordance with the finished design levels.

8.2 SUPPLY

Deliver turf to the site within 24 hours of cutting and prevent it from drying out between cutting and laying. If
possible lay turf within 36 hours of cutting. If it is not laid within 36 hours, roll it out on a flat surface with the
grass up and water as necessary to maintain a good condition.

8.3 LAYING

Lay the turf along land contours with staggered, close-butted joints, and so that the finished turf surface is
at the levels shown on drawings.

As soon as practical after laying, roll over the turf with a roller weighing not more than 90 kg/m of width and
fill joints with topsoil as specified. As soon as possible after rolling, irrigate thoroughly with a fine spray to a
depth of 150mm. Continue as necessary to maintain moisture to this depth and to maintain grass in a
healthy condition. Lift failed turf and relay with new turf of the specified turf species.

8.4 MAINTENANCE

When the turf is established, mow at 25mm above soil level, remove cuttings and lightly top dress to a
maximum depth of 10mm with specified topsoil to fill joints and correct unevenness in the turf surface 21
days after turfing, broadcast evenly a minimum of 10 g/m² of sulphate of ammonia fertiliser over the whole
of the area of turfing.

Protect newly turfed areas against traffic until turf is established. When turf is established mow at regular
intervals to maintain an average height of 25mm. Remove weeds that emerge in the turfed areas.

Carry out last mowing within 7 days before the end of planting establishment period. Remove grass
clippings from the site after each mowing. Apply a lawn fertiliser at the completion of the first and last
mowings, and at other times required to maintain healthy grass cover.

                                                 END OF SECTION
