Plants shall be secured in sufficient time to ensure they achieve specified sizes and quality for the Contract. The Superintendent must be informed immediately if any difficulty is encountered in procuring the plants on the nursery site at which they are to be stored, and clearly labelled as being for this project. The allocated plants must also be made available to the Superintendent to be inspected at all times. Photographic evidence of all species is required 4 weeks after Contract has been let. Photographs must contain at least two plants / trees per species including a measuring staff or other measuring devices illustrating height and spread of individual species. 9.2 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Attain all plant stock from a QALI registered supplier with an Australian Standards Approved Quality Assurance System. The nurseries location must be situated within 100km radius of site and inspection of all plant stock shall take place at one location only. Alternatively, the Contractor shall reimburse the Superintendent for time and travel to inspect the plant material. 9.3 EXCAVATING FOR PLANTING 9.3.1 PLANTING AREAS Excavate a hole for each plant large enough to provide not less than 200mm of topsoil around the root system of the plant, or as shown on the Drawings. 9.3.2 PLANTING OF TREES Excavate hole a minimum 300mm wider than the rootball and deep enough to accept a minimum 200mm of topsoil below. Break up the base of the hole to a further depth of 200mm, and loosen compacted sides of the hole, as necessary to prevent confinement of root growth to the hole. Backfill with imported topsoil, lightly tamp and water to eliminate air pockets. 9.4 PLANTING 9.4.1 GENERAL Set out plant material in positions and quantities as shown on planting plans unless otherwise directed. If it appears necessary for plants to cover the area more uniformly, or for similar reasons, notify the Superintendent for instruction and direction. Planting holes shall be prepared not more than twenty four- (24) hours in advance of planting. A slow release tablet form of fertiliser is preferred, 'Agriform' or equivalent. Apply tablets at the rate and depth of the manufacturer's recommendation. Water plants in containers immediately prior to planting. Install plants as shown on Planting Plan and associated details. Ensure the topsoil level of the plant root ball is 20mm below the finished surface of the soil surrounding the hole, backfill as required. AECOM 6
