Guiding Principles

What Matters Most to Noosa Respondents Guiding Principle

Resident amenity, housing supply, and accessibility
should be prioritised and improved to support a balanced
                                                             Respecting Our Community
 and inclusive community.

Everyone, residents, businesses and visitors should be
encouraged to tread lightly, protect our environments and
                                                                   Living Our Values
 leave a lasting, positive legacy.

Traffic Management and congested areas should be
addressed by improving the way we move around Noosa
                                                                    Leading the Way
and how we access our favourite places during peak
 periods.

Tourism should be a force for good, with visitors helping
Noosa to fund the cost of environmental protection,
                                                                   Tourism For Good
regeneration of places and land, infrastructure
 improvements, and community benefit projects.

What does success look like?
We tested the Guiding Principles with our community during a second round of community
engagement - not only to confirm their shared support for the direction of the Destination
Management Plan (DMP), but to help us to shape and strengthen our final Implementation Plan.

Our respondents were also grouped into two cohorts – youth (15 – 20 years) and the broader
community (21+) to compare and contrast what success might look like for each group:

1. Community wellbeing, lifestyle and local prioritisation

       - Broader Community: Locals’ amenity and wellbeing before tourism growth.
       - Youth Community: Affordable housing, support for locals and small businesses.

2. Environmental Protection and sustainability

       - Both groups emphasised protecting nature, wildlife, and maintaining Noosa’s
           unique character. A nature-positive environment.

3. Transport and mobility Improvements

       - Broader Community: Car-free access, reduce congestion, mobility is easy
       - Youth Community: Fix traffic and improve public transport.
