The opening of Maroochydore Airport in 1961 and improved road and rail connections - ushered
in a new era of growth for Noosa. The region entered a period of record population expansion,
driven in part by a booming visitor economy.

Tourism markets flourished, with increasing numbers of holidaymakers arriving from Sydney,
Melbourne, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, Germany and North America.
