Appendix B: Future Growth in Parking Demand
Future parking performance for the study areas in Noosa was determined based on assumed growth in parking
demand. This growth in parking demand was determined based on inputs of:
      Residential population growth;
 Growth in visitor demand (where relevant); and
 Expected future development, (based on development capacity).

Residential population growth was taken as a lower bound for projected growth in parking demand, while
growth in visitor demand was qualitatively considered when evaluating likely growth in development relative to
development capacity. Finally, assumptions were made around the proportion of growth in development
experienced as increased on-street (public) parking demand, based on site constraints. Carparking demands and
associated parking requirements have been projected forwards to 2031, in line with Noosa’s current
development scheme.

B.1: Residential Population Growth
Future residential growth in the Noosa region was obtained from ABS population projections. The resulting
population growth assumptions for key centres in the region is shown in Table B-1:

As can be seen from Table B-1, relatively large residential population growth, at 23% between 2017 and 2031,
is expected to occur in the central Noosa Heads area, encompassing Noosa Junction, Hastings Street and
Noosaville. Minimal population growth is expected to arise in Sunshine Beach and Tewantin, at 4% and 7%
between 2017 and 2031, respectively. Noosa Hinterland region is expected to experience 14% population
growth between 2017 and 2031.
