Noosa Council
Noosa Car Parking Study 2017 - 2032
Final Report
Figure 5-2: Hastings Street Parking Demand Management Intervention
The implementation of priced parking is expected to result in a decrease in parking demand of between 10%
and 30%, which may be sufficient to enable everyday parking demand to be met by existing parking supply,
depending upon the pricing strategy adopted.
Hastings Street also experiences additional temporal demand for beach parking, however data is not available
on variations in parking behaviour during seasonal periods where peak parking demand is higher.
Opportunities exist for additional parking supply at Noosa Junction. As will be discussed in Section 5.4.4, existing
parking supply at Noosa Junction is sufficient to meet parking demand up to 2031, although an additional 41
carparks would be required by 2031 to achieve a design utilisation rate of 85%. As such, an expanded parking
supply at Noosa Junction could be used to meet excess parking demand at Hastings Street. A Noosa Junction
to Hastings Street connection is likely to be highly utilised during peak temporal parking periods (i.e. beach
demand on weekends during the summer), and additional dedicated shuttle bus services would be required to
support it.
Three potential locations for additional parking in Noosa Junction were identified, as shown in Figure 5-3. An
additional potential parking location was identified at the Noosa Drive / Sunshine Beach Road / Grant Street
intersection, adjacent to the existing Hillsong Noosa campus, however this location is outside the study area, it
was not included in the site option evaluation.
