REPORT
1. Local Disaster Management Plan
It is a requirement of the Disaster Management Act 2003 (the Act) that a local government
develops a Local Disaster Management Plan (the Plan) to assist with effective disaster
management for its area. It is also a requirement of the Act that a local government for the area
review, or renew, its Plan when considered appropriate.
With the annual self-assessment against the Emergency Management Assurance Framework
due by the end of September 2016, it is timely for Council to review the 2015/16 Plan.
Following de-amalgamation, the 2014/15 Plan underwent a substantial review due to the
separation of Noosa components from the previous years’ joint Sunshine Coast Council and
Noosa Council Plan. This review of the 2015/16 Plan has focused on updating data and
reviewing the disaster risk management elements.
Material changes made to the 2015/16 Plan are as follows:
Update of Local Disaster Management Group Members and Advisors list
Review of Disaster Risk Management including:
o Update of statistical data (where available)
o Increase of risk likelihood for East Coast Low in July and August from Possible to Likely
o Decrease of risk likelihood for Major Air Transport Accident from Unlikely to Rare
