The target set by State Government and figured into Council’s Waste Recycling & Reduction
Plan calls for Queensland councils to divert 55% of waste from landfill by 2024.

The information shows that the weight of material recycled through Council’s waste sites in the
2019FY has again increased. However, this is offset by the additional weight of waste being
received by Council. The amount of waste that was sent to landfill or held on site in stockpiles
awaiting a market has again increased. It is worth noting that at the end of the financial year
Council had on site approximately 10,500 tonnes of processed concrete and 13,400 tonnes of
mulch. This material has been diverted and processed and awaiting sale. This material is
identified as being recycled when it is sold or given away to the community, and therefore not
identified as ‘recycled’ in the above data. There generally continues to be more waste generated
year on year.
