          3.1 Cut Batter

The cut batter exposed highly to extremely weathered granodiorite with evidence of corestone
weathering. Corestone weathering typically results in rounded boulders in an extremely weathered
(XW) rock profile. This suggests the cut batter will most likely have soil like properties throughout.

The geometry of the cut batter was measured to have a height of 5m to 6m, and an average slope angle
of approximately 36°. Areas of the batter were observed to be failing particularly at the contact point
where the weathered rock profile met with the overlaying residual layer.

The slope angle above the cut batter measured at approximately 20°, sloping down to the crest. The
vegetation above the cut batter was generally well grassed with the occasional tree. One tree was
located at the crest of the batter and it is understood the preference is for this tree to stay. It should be
noted that tree roots can cause root jacking of material and this may pose erosion problems, however
the removal of the tree would also create instabilities that would also need to be addressed. The batter
itself was free from vegetation. A cover of erosion protection polymer (refer green coating in site photos
below) had recently been placed over the batter.

The following site photos were taken at the time of the investigation on the 4th of November, 2021:
