Civic
This clearing was rejected in favour of a network of access and fire lines to allow some
hazard reduction burning in the area to the south east of the Noosa Civic development.
(see Appendix 2 email dated 27/10/08)
In 2011 further actions were recommended including:-
Widening the access track to the east.
Manage six metres on either side of the north south track.
Vegetation management along the southern interface of development and
vegetation.
(see Appendix 2 email dated 20/07/11 and Aerial Photograph No. 3)
No hazard reduction burning has been possible however vegetation management has
been conducted adjoining the developed complex.
The design and construction of the eastern and southern boundaries of the Civic Centre
were predicated on future development of the lands to the south.
This included bollards and urban fire hydrants along the southern boundary of the Big W
building. (see Photograph Nos. 1 & 2)
The decision not to develop the areas to the south of Noosa Civic changes the
requirements and usefulness of the existing equipment in this area.
The accumulated fuel loads across the retained vegetation requires a range of actions in
these areas to ensure the risk to the Noosa Civic Centre is minimised. (see Photograph
Nos. 3 & 4)
3.2 Access
There is a need to provide safe access into the vegetated area E1 on Noosa Shire
Business Centre Masterplan. This access should not be a dead end and needs to provide
a suitable boundary for future fuel management activities.
