GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 16 JANUARY 2017

 broadening the reference to the Noosa River to include all waterways in the Shire (to be
consistent with the recent discussions regarding waterways management); and
 improving the consistency of language and layout within pages 10 to 14 (particularly in
relation to the use of tense).

D. Layout / format – feedback was received that some of the layout and formatting could be
improved. These changes have been made (for example, more photos of the hinterland have
been included and the formatting improved). Also, given that the plan is being adopted in 2017,
we have changed the time period from 2016 to 2017.

E. Linkage to Council activities – to ensure that there is a better linkage to the Operational Plan
and Budget, we have reframed the one page summary of the five themes at the end of the
document to link to Council services rather than branches.

To assist Councillors, a copy of a “marked up” copy showing revisions has been placed in the
Councillors Room showing the changes from the version adopted in December for the purposes
of consultation.

As a reminder, the key elements of the Corporate Plan are:
 Taking a longer term horizon than usual – looking out 20 years with a 2021 review horizon
    built into the document.
 Proposing a vision that reflects our distinctive Noosa approach - “Noosa Shire – different by
    nature”.
 Including the work undertaken by our staff to define what is important to them and how they
think we should operate as an organisation (see page 8 of the plan).
 Identifying key focus areas under 5 themes that we need to address in the short term.
 Identifying the 20 year goals and aspirations for each of those 5 themes.

What next?

The new Corporate Plan will be used to guide the development of the 2017/18 Operational Plan
and Budget.

We also propose to develop a short document that links our day to day services to the Corporate
Plan framework. That document will help staff answer the question - where do I fit in? That will
assist in ensuring that the Corporate Plan is well understood by our staff and will also transition
smoothly into the current Branch Plan process.
