4.0 SITE CLASSIFICATION
Caloundra Soil Tes ng has classified this Site as Class P as per the AS 2870 – 2011.
The above classifica on is due to depth of unsuitable founding material (Insufficient bearing strength)
found at the site. The depth of unsuitable founding material found ranged between 700 to 2000mm
deep.
The close proximity of the exis ng trees and removal of the exis ng dwelling should also be taken into
account when designing the foo ng systems for this site.
The reac vity of the soil profile would generally lead to a Class H2 (Highly Reac ve) in absence of the
above reasons. Based on the reac vity of the soil profile the Es mated Characteris c Surface
Movement (ys) for this soil type would be 65-70mm (this does not take into account the effect of any
trees or removal of buildings from the site).

5.0 FOOTING RECOMMENDATIONS
The minimum founding depths and founding materials should be as follows.

Borehole Minimum founding Founding material Allowable
   Number depth for edge Bearing
                  beams, strips and pad Capacity
                  foo ngs below (kPa)
                  exis ng surface levels
                  (mm)
1 2000 Sandy silty CLAY, pale grey/ off white, very stiff 100
2 700 Sandy silty CLAY, pale grey/ off white, very stiff 100
Special a;en on should be paid to the AS2870 - 2011 for overriding minimum founding depths and
design requirements for the given site classifica on for this site.
It is recommended that any trees be located a minimum of 1.00 x the mature height of the tree away
from the proposed building(s). This distance should be increased by 50% for groups or lines of trees. If
any trees impede on the recommended setbacks the foo ng system should be engineered designed. It
is the designing engineer responsibility to calculate the effect of any trees near the proposed structure.
