INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 8 DECEMBER 2015

Generally, those individuals and organisations who responded to the opportunity for input to the
draft Social Strategy were complimentary and supportive of the proposed directions contained in
it. Generally, they viewed it as an opportunity to complement the economic development strategy
and an opportunity to partner with Council on key initiatives. Some minor amendments to the text,
key initiatives and statistics were made in response to the feedback provided.

This included:
 Additional statistics and a commentary being added to the Key Facts section which has been
   renamed Community snapshot
 Recognising the potential for new technologies to integrate and deliver services
 The need for improved coordination and collection of local data to better inform evidenced-
based social planning, advocacy and resource allocation
 Acknowledging the role local artists and arts organisations play in community wellbeing and
supporting individuals to develop skills and careers in the arts
 The creation of a One Stop Shop Community Hub new initiative bringing multiple service
   agencies under one roof
 Reinforcing Council’s role in the implementation of the Strategy

Next steps

Following adoption of the Social Strategy an implementation plan will be prepared in early 2016
detailing a three year action plan, proposed funding initiatives that can be considered during budget

businesses, community groups and individuals to achieve our goals.
