PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 3 MARCH 2015
New Democracy Foundation (nDF) is partnering with Council to deliver the process of
Noosa’s first community jury. nDF is a respected, not-for-profit, non-aligned, non-political
Australian research foundation supported by politicians from across the spectrum and a host
of leading Australian academics.
First Meeting
Noosa’s Community Jury met for the first time on 7 February 2015. 23 of the expected 24
jurors attended. The jury spent a full day receiving an overview of the topic. They heard a
presentation from Council’s Waste Manager Wayne Schafer, visited the landfill site and
worked in groups to determine what more they wanted to find out and who they would like to
hear more from.
The jury was well catered for and good feedback from jurors was received by Council.
newDemocracy Foundation (nDF) and CE Branch now have the task of fulfilling the jury’s
“wish list” of documents and speakers before the next meeting on March 4. The jury has a
“jurors’ conversation” on Your Say Noosa where jurors can share their ideas between
meetings.
Council has no communication with the jury between meetings and nDF handles all
enquiries.
Media
The proceedings of the first meeting have been videoed and an excellent promotional clip
has been produced and promoted via Council’s Facebook page, on YSN and on nDF’s
website. The video will soon be on the front page of Council’s website.
WIN News, 7 and ABC TV television crews attended the first meeting. The event appeared
on the front page of the Noosa News, in several other publications and on the news on local
television.
The privacy of the juror’s identities has continued to be maintained by nDF in accordance
with the nDF philosophy for community juries.
Documents
In addition to a comprehensive 50 page background document prepared by Wayne Schafer,
the jurors have received 20 submissions from the public to date.
All documents are made available to the public on Your Say Noosa at the same time as they
are made available to the jury.
WEBSITE PROJECT
In accordance with the objectives of the Website Project, as approved by Council in the latter
stages of 2014, the following progress has been made. Resolute is Council’s website host
and service provider.
Decision not to move to a new platform
After some initial delays late in 2014, Council took the decision to update the current
platform with new templates enabling a new “look and feel”.
