SECTION 3 - FIELDWORK
3.1 Drilling and Sampling Methods
The current investigation comprised the drilling and sampling of six bores (Bores 7 to 12, which have been
numbered sequentially from the bores carried out for the previous ASS assessment). The current bores
were drilled using a Jacro 350 drilling rig operating solid flight augers to 3m depth and wash bore drilling
from 3m to the termination depth of the bores. Strata identification was from material returned to the surface
by the augers and in the wash bore fluid, supplemented by inspection of Standard penetration test (SPT)
samples, taken at selected depth intervals.
3.2 Bore Locations
Bore locations were limited by existing site development, were determined in the field by direct measurement
from existing site features and are indicated approximately on the attached Drawing No. 1. The ground
surface levels at the bore locations have been interpolated from contours given on PMM’s Combined Detail
Survey Plan (Drawing No. 7328-03, dated 18 April 2007).
A geotechnical engineer set out the test locations, logged the stratigraphy encountered in the bores and
directed the in-situ sampling and testing program.
