Resource Recovery Strategy 2019.
Greenhouse gas emissions The most significant source of Council emissions (63%) is
the Eumundi Noosa Road landfill owned and operated by
Noosa Council which receives and manages the Noosa
community's residential and commercial waste.
Circular economy Promoting the circular economy aims to reduce the need
for raw material extraction including reliance on fossil fuels.
Promoting the circular economy and associated economic
opportunities is a key driver of the Draft Waste Plan.
Cost savings Every tonne of waste buried at the landfill costs Council
$160 and there is also the State Government levy rate on
general waste going to landfill of $95 per tonne. Every
tonne of waste not sent to landfill is a cost saving.
Innovation and technological Innovative solutions for waste collection, treatment, and
advancements recycling including tried and tested technologies are an
important influence on waste management and a driver of
the Draft Waste Plan.
Environmental stewardship Actively taking actions to conserve and protect the
environment for the benefit of current and future
generations.
Community engagement and The Noosa community are an active and engaged
participation community and a key driver in the push for waste
minimisation and recycling.
Public health and safety Maintaining public health and safety in relation to disposal
of hazardous waste, contamination, and fire prevention.
Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility involves taking ownership of items
that are no longer needed and being mindful of unnecessary
consumption. Council is committed to assisting residents to
manage their bulky waste responsibly by providing
information on relevant service providers to assist in the
collection of bulky goods.

2. Community & Stakeholder Feedback – Draft Waste Plan Actions
Valuable feedback was obtained through the Your Say Waste Survey, which attracted 624
responses during the period 13 February to 26 March 2023.
Opportunities for face-to-face conversations were created through pop-up events at Noosaville and
Cooroy Libraries, Pomona, and Noosa Farmers Markets, as well as a family movie night.
Presentations and meetings were also organised with key stakeholders.
Attachment 2: “Community & Stakeholder Feedback – Draft Waste Plan Actions” details how
community and stakeholder feedback helped shape the Draft Waste Plan actions.
3. Next Steps
Subject to adoption of the Draft Waste Plan it is proposed to seek community and stakeholder
feedback during the period of 18 August – 10 September on the following:
